Professor Ki Baat — Seedhi Dil Se

Bhai, suno dhyan se: English mein score boost karna bahut aasaan hai — agar tum sahi approach lo. 20 saal mein maine ek cheez dekhi hai: jo students fail hote hain wo English se darte hain. Jo pass hote hain wo English ko system ki tarah treat karte hain. Aaj main tumhe wohi system dunga.

Banking exams mein English section aam taur par 30–40 marks ka hota hai. SBI PO mein toh yeh section qualify karna bhi zaroori hai aur marks bhi count hote hain. Isliye isko ignore karna matlab apne pair pe kulhadi maarna hai.

🏆 Professor Ka Sabse Pehla Rule
English mein 90%+ accuracy tab aati hai jab tum har topic ka ek system bana lo — padhne ka nahi, solve karne ka. Har topic ka ek fixed 3-step process hona chahiye tumhare dimaag mein.
1
Topic 1 — Sabse Zyada Marks

Reading Comprehension (RC)

SBI PO: 10–15 marks Accuracy: High if done right
RC mein ek passage hota hai aur uske 5–10 questions. Yeh section sabse zyada marks deta hai — isliye yahan galti karna bahut mehenga padta hai.

📖 RC Karne Ka 4-Step Formula

1
Pehle Questions Padho (30 sec): Passage se pehle questions dekho. Vocabulary aur inference wale questions side pe rakh do. Factual/direct questions note karo — inke answers dhundhne honge passage mein.
2
Passage Ka Scan Karo (60–90 sec): Pura passage padhne ki zaroorat nahi. Pehla paragraph + aakhri paragraph ध्यान se padho. Beech ke paragraphs ka sirf topic sentence (first line) padho.
3
Factual Questions Solve Karo: Jo question note kiye the, unke answers passage ke specific part mein dhundho. Keywords use karo — passage mein highlight karo.
4
Inference + Tone Last Mein: "Author's tone", "main idea", "can be inferred" wale questions sab padh ke karo — yeh reasoning based hain.

🎯 Topic-Wise RC Questions Kaise Tackle Karein

Question Type Approach Time
Direct/Factual Passage mein keyword dhundho, aas-paas padho 30 sec
Main Idea/Theme Pehla + aakhri para — central idea kya hai? 40 sec
Author's Tone Positive/Negative/Neutral — adjectives aur opinion words dekho 30 sec
Inference "Imply/suggest/infer" = passage se bahar mat jao, andar hi answer hai 50 sec
Vocabulary in Context Option replace karo sentence mein — meaning fit ho 25 sec
Title Pura passage ka essence ek line mein — topic nahi, point of view 30 sec
✅ Pro Tip: RC mein answer hamesha passage ke andar hota hai — apni general knowledge mat lagao. Jo passage mein likha hai, wohi sach hai RC ke liye.
⚠️ Common Mistake: Pura passage word-by-word padhna — isse time waste hota hai. Scan karo, targeted padho.

Topic 2

Cloze Test

IBPS/SBI: 5–10 marks
Ek paragraph mein blanks hote hain. Har blank ke liye 4–5 options diye hote hain. Pura paragraph ek connected theme pe hota hai.

🔑 Cloze Test Solve Karne Ka Formula

1
Pehle Pura Para Padho: Bina kisi blank ko fill kiye, pura paragraph ek baar padho. Theme/topic samjho — economy hai? Politics hai? Environment hai?
2
Aas-Paas Ki Lines Dekho: Blank se pehle aur baad ki line — dono context deti hain. Coherence check karo.
3
Grammar Filter Lagao: Subject-verb agreement, article (a/an/the), preposition — yeh narrow kar dete hain options ko.
4
Meaning + Tone Match Karo: Positive context mein positive word. Contrast ke liye "however/but/yet" ke baad opposite meaning.
📌 Key Rules — Cloze Test
  • Connector Words: "Although/Despite" = contrast; "Because/Since" = reason; "Therefore/Thus" = result. Yeh blanks easy hote hain.
  • Collocations: Kuch words saath aate hain — "make a decision" (not "do a decision"), "take responsibility", "meet a deadline". Yeh yaad rakho.
  • Tone Consistency: Agar paragraph negative/critical hai, toh blank mein bhi waise hi word aayega.
✅ Shortcut: Confusing options mein se grammatically wrong ko pehle hatao — aksar 2 options aise hi eliminate ho jaate hain.
3
Topic 3 — Accuracy Ka Raja

Error Spotting / Finding Errors

High Difficulty 5–10 questions
Ek sentence 4 parts mein divide hota hai (A/B/C/D). Galat part dhundhna hai. "No error" bhi ek option hota hai.

🏗️ Error Spotting — Checklist System

Yeh topic ek doctor ki tarah treat karo. Pehle diagnosis karo, phir treat karo. Yeh 9 areas check karo hamesha:

# Check Point Example of Error
1 Subject-Verb Agreement "The team are playing" ❌ → "The team is playing" ✅
2 Tense Consistency "He came and goes" ❌ → "He came and went" ✅
3 Articles (a/an/the) "He is an honest man" ✅ (vowel sound = an)
4 Prepositions "Discuss about it" ❌ → "Discuss it" ✅
5 Pronoun Agreement "Everyone should do their best" ✅ (singular pronoun)
6 Comparatives/Superlatives "More taller" ❌ → "Taller" ✅
7 Modifiers (Dangling/Misplaced) "Walking on the road, the rain fell" ❌
8 Parallelism "She likes to dance, singing, and runs" ❌
9 Conditional Sentences "If I was rich" ❌ → "If I were rich" ✅
⚡ SBI PO Level Error Spotting — Special Rules
  • Collective Nouns: Army, Committee, Jury — singular verb use hoti hai jab group ek unit ki tarah kaam kare.
  • "Neither...nor" / "Either...or": Verb subject ke close wale noun se agree karti hai. "Neither Ram nor his friends ARE going."
  • Indefinite Pronouns: Each, Every, Either, Neither, One, Anyone, Everybody — hamesha singular verb.
  • "The number of" vs "A number of": "The number of students IS large." "A number of students ARE absent."
  • Gerund vs Infinitive: "Enjoy/avoid/suggest" ke baad gerund (-ing). "Want/wish/hope" ke baad infinitive (to+V).
⚡ SPEED FORMULA: Sentence padho → Grammar areas check karo → Jo part "unnatural" lage, usko pehle check karo → Options se confirm karo
⚠️ Trap: "No error" ka option sahi hone ki probability 15–20% hoti hai. Agar sab sahi lag raha hai aur tumne carefully check kiya — confidently "No Error" daro.
4
Topic 4

Sentence Correction / Improvement

Moderate Difficulty
Ek sentence diya hota hai jisme bold/underlined part hota hai. Us part ko correct karna hota hai options mein se.

🛠️ Sentence Correction Approach

1
Pehle highlighted part ka grammatical role samjho — verb hai? Noun hai? Connector hai?
2
Original sentence ka meaning kya hai? Options mein meaning change ho raha hai kya?
3
Grammar rules apply karo — Error Spotting wali checklist yahan bhi kaam aati hai.
4
Sahi option wali sentence ko mentally padhو — kya natural lagti hai?
✅ Golden Rule: "No improvement" option tab select karo jab tum 100% sure ho. Agar doubt hai, grammar se cross-check karo pehle.
5
Topic 5 — Logic + Language

Para Jumbles (Sentence Rearrangement)

5–6 Questions Tricky
4–6 sentences diye hote hain jinhein logical order mein arrange karna hota hai. Aksar first/last sentence fixed hoti hai.

🧩 Para Jumbles — Winning Strategy

1
Opening Sentence Dhundho: Jo sentence koi pronoun (he/she/they/it) se start na ho aur koi article "the" reference na ho — woh opening candidate hai. General statement se para shuru hota hai.
2
Closing Sentence Dhundho: Jo sentence conclusion de — "therefore, finally, thus, in conclusion, ultimately" wale words aakhri sentence mein aate hain.
3
Linking Words Se Connect Karo: "However, Moreover, Furthermore, Nevertheless, In addition, For instance" — yeh connector batate hain kaun si sentence kiske baad aayegi.
4
Pronoun Reference Trace Karo: "He/She/It/They/This/These" — yeh pronoun kisi noun ko refer karte hain jo pichli sentence mein hoga.
📌 Connector Words — Yaad Rakho
Type Words
Addition Moreover, Furthermore, In addition, Also, Besides
Contrast However, Nevertheless, On the other hand, Yet, But
Result Therefore, Thus, Hence, Consequently, As a result
Example For instance, For example, Such as, Namely
Conclusion Finally, In conclusion, To sum up, Ultimately
🔗 CHAIN RULE: Opening → [Explanation/Support → Example → Contrast → Result] → Closing
Yeh sequence 80% para jumbles mein kaam karta hai.
6
Topic 6

Fill in the Blanks (Single & Double)

Easy to Medium

Types aur Approach

Single Blank
  • Context se tone samjho — positive/negative/neutral
  • Part of speech check karo — noun chahiye? verb? adjective?
  • Grammatically galat options eliminate karo
  • Meaning se best fit select karo
Double Blank (Zyada Tricky)
  • Dono blanks ek saath fit honge — ek sahi hone se dusra automatically narrow ho jaata hai
  • Relationship check karo: Kya dono blanks same direction mein hain ya opposite?
  • Pehle aasaan blank fill karo — phir usse dusra blank confirm karo
✅ Double Blank Shortcut: Jo pair dono blanks ke liye sense nahi deta use pehle eliminate karo — isse options aadhe ho jaate hain.
7
Topic 7 — Foundation

Vocabulary — Word Power Build Karo

Every topic mein kaam aata hai
Banking exams mein Synonyms, Antonyms, One Word Substitution, Idioms, aur Contextual Meaning — sab vocabulary pe depend karte hain.

📚 Vocabulary Build Karne Ka Sahi Tarika

1
Roots Yaad Karo (Most Effective): Latin/Greek roots ek baar yaad ho toh 10 words ek saath samajh aate hain. "Bene" = good (Benefit, Benevolent, Benefactor). "Mal" = bad (Malicious, Malevolent, Malfunction).
2
Context Mein Padho: Isolated words yaad nahi rehte. Sentence ke saath padho. "The austere monk lived in a bare cell" — austere = very simple/strict.
3
Daily 10 Words Rule: Roz 10 new words — unka meaning, synonym, antonym, aur ek sentence. 3 months mein 900 words active vocabulary.
4
Previous Year Papers Ke Words: Last 5 years ke papers ke vocabulary questions solve karo — 60–70% words repeat hote hain.
🎯 High-Frequency Banking Exam Words (Categories)
Category Words
Economy/Finance Fiscal, Monetary, Recession, Austerity, Liquidity, Defunct, Viable
Positive Words Pragmatic, Prudent, Judicious, Exemplary, Laudable, Buoyant
Negative Words Aberrant, Fallacious, Spurious, Inimical, Pernicious, Nefarious
Descriptive Ambiguous, Ambivalent, Ephemeral, Transient, Pervasive, Inherent
RC Tone Words Critical, Sarcastic, Optimistic, Pessimistic, Objective, Cynical

⚡ Exam Mein Unknown Word Ka Answer Kaise Do

  • Roots se guess karo — prefix/suffix dekho
  • Context se tone samjho — positive hai ya negative?
  • Options mein jo clearly opposite hai use eliminate karo
  • Ek ya do options eliminate ho jayein toh 50-50 chance mein attempt karo (negative marking ke hisaab se decide karo)

Topic 8

Idioms & Phrases

3–5 Questions
Idioms ka literal meaning nahi hota — yeh fixed expressions hote hain. Sirf ratta maarna hi ek raasta hai, lekin smart approach se kam idioms mein zyada cover hota hai.

🔑 Must-Know Idioms — Banking Exams

Idiom Meaning
Bite the bullet Mushkil situation ko sahas se face karna
Cut corners Kaam mein shortcuts lena, quality compromise karna
On the fence Kisi side ka decision na karna, neutral rehna
Burn bridges Relationships permanently kharab karna
Hit the nail on the head Bilkul sahi baat kehna
Ball is in your court Ab decision tumhare haath mein hai
Under the weather Thoda beemar mehsoos karna
Break the ice Awkwardness khatam karke baat shuru karna
Spill the beans Secret bata dena
Cost an arm and a leg Bahut mehenga hona
A blessing in disguise Jo bura lage but faayedamand ho
Bite off more than you can chew Apni capacity se zyada kaam uthana
✅ Trick: Idioms ko story se yaad karo. "Bite the bullet" — jab anesthesia nahi hota tha, soldiers bullet ko daant se dabate the dard mein. Ek baar story yaad ho toh meaning kabhi nahi bhoolega.

Topic 9 — SBI PO Favourite

Sentence/Para Summary

New Pattern SBI PO Main mein common
Ek long sentence ya paragraph diya jaata hai. 4 options mein se best summary choose karni hoti hai jo puri baat ko chhote roop mein capture kare.

Summary Questions Ka Formula

1
Central Idea Dhundho: Passage ka main point kya hai? Supporting details aur examples summary mein nahi aate.
2
Wrong Options Eliminate Karo: Jo too specific ho (sirf ek example pe focus kare), jo too broad ho, ya jo naya meaning add kare — sab wrong.
3
Best Summary = Main Idea + Tone: Sahi summary woh hai jo passage ki spirit ko pakde — na zyada na kam.
⚠️ Trap: Jo option passage ke words ko verbatim repeat kare — woh aksar galat hota hai. Summary apne words mein honi chahiye.
10
Topic 10

Odd One Out (Odd Sentence)

Easy if understood
5 sentences diye jaate hain — 4 ek hi theme ke hain, 1 alag hai. Woh odd sentence dhundhni hai.
1
Sabse pehle theme identify karo — paragraph kiske baare mein hai?
2
Jo sentence theme se completely alag topic pe ho ya irrelevant fact deta ho — woh odd hai.
3
Baaki 4 sentences ek logical sequence mein jodni chahiye — test karo.
✅ Quick Test: Odd sentence nikalo aur baaki 4 se para banao. Agar para coherent bane toh tumhara answer sahi hai.

📋 Recommended Sequence (English Section)

1
Vocabulary & Fill in Blanks — Sabse pehle karo (easy marks, fast)
2
Cloze Test — Medium difficulty, connected passage — score karna aasaan
3
Para Jumbles & Odd One Out — Pattern based, logic lagao
4
Error Spotting — Grammar rules se quickly scan karo
5
RC — Aakhir mein karo agar waqt ho — ya pehle karo agar RC tumhari strength hai
🎯 Professor Ka Golden Rule — Negative Marking
SBI PO mein 0.25 negative marking hai. Agar kisi question mein tumhara confidence 60%+ ho — attempt karo. 40% se neeche — skip karo. English mein educated guess accuracy bahut achhi hoti hai kyunki context se eliminate kar sakte ho.

✍️ Ek Aakhri Baat...

Bhai, 20 saal mein maine hazaron students ko SBI PO, IBPS PO aur RBI mein jaate dekha hai. Jo ek cheez common thi unme — woh daily consistent practice karte the. Koi ek din mein topper nahi bana. Lekin ek ek din ka effort milta raha aur ek din woh answer key check karte waqt muskura rahe the.

Tum bhi kar sakte ho — bas system banao aur uspe tikе raho. Best of luck!
